Deirdre Gamill-Hock
Writer and Editor

I bring precision to your words—whether you're writing to win a contract, publish a book, or build your business.
For more than 20 years, I've worked with bestselling horror authors, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and government agencies. I've edited over 20 books, managed proposals worth millions of dollars, and helped clients win everything from federal contracts to economic development grants.

What sets me apart? I understand both sides of the writing equation. As a proposal manager by day and fiction editor by night, I know how to tell a compelling story while meeting strict technical requirements. I write historical fiction for myself, which means I'm constantly sharpening the craft I bring to your projects.

Here's what I can do for you
You have something important to say, but the words aren't quite working. I'll help you craft content that's clear, engaging, and matched to your audience—whether that's a business proposal, website copy, blog post, or marketing materials. I've written everything from economic development reports to pitch decks to articles on health, wellness, and entrepreneurship.

You've written something good, but it needs expert polish. I'll edit your work to ensure it's clean, compelling, and professional. I specialize in developmental editing for fiction writers and line editing for business documents. If you're a non-native English speaker, I can bring your content up to US or UK English standards while preserving your voice.

You need someone who won't miss deadlines or details. I'm organized, responsive, and committed to delivering quality work on time. Your projects stay confidential, and I won't consider the job done until you're satisfied with the results.

What I've accomplished
I've edited more than 20 books for independent authors, including Steven Jenkins and Iain Rob Wright, both bestselling horror writers with devoted international followings.

In proposal management, I've contributed to significant wins: a proposal team that grew revenue from $17,256 in 2021 to $2,802,722 in 2024; a $3.8 million manufacturing facility that created 55+ jobs in Kansas; a new interstate interchange for Leavenworth County; and a $25,000 federal grant for economic development.

I know how to work with subject matter experts, synthesize complex information, and present it in ways that win over decision-makers—whether that's a reader deciding to buy your book or a client choosing your company for a major contract.

"Deirdre is an excellent editor, proposal, and pitch deck writer. I was working on a funding proposal and pitch deck for a new business venture and needed someone to help me to bring coherence to my vision. I was referred to Deirdre, and she was a definite "God-send." She took all of the information I had gathered and written and made it flow into a compelling vision and story. After making the proposal flow, she used her skills to do the pitch deck. Her work is thorough and timely. I was amazed at how quickly she understood my needs and turned around a beautifully articulate product. From now on, she is my go-to editor for everything. I love her work and her work ethic."

What I work on
I write and edit proposals (RFPs, government contracts, grants, pitch decks) for private companies, nonprofits, and government agencies. I create content for blogs, websites, and newsletters. I write business documents including reports, competitive analyses, business plans, and market validation studies. I edit fiction—particularly for independent authors who want their work to compete with traditional publishing standards.
My background
I hold an MBA from Wichita State University and a BBA with a double major in Business and Psychology from Pittsburg State University. I am a Certified Proposal Professional through APMP (Association of Proposal Management Professionals).

I work from Kansas City, Missouri, where I live with two rescue dogs. When I'm not working on client projects, I'm gardening, bird watching, trying new recipes, reading everything I can get my hands on, or working on my own historical fiction.
